How to work with me

Three ways in.

Most work starts one of three ways. If none of them fit what you have in mind, say so and we will shape something that does.

01

Audit & direction

1–2 weeks · fixed fee

For when something is wrong and nobody can quite name it. I go through the product, the flows and whatever data exists, then come back with what is actually broken, what it is costing you, and what to fix first.

You getFindings, annotated flows, and a prioritised plan you can hand straight to a team.
02

Design partnership

Monthly · ongoing

Embedded senior design for teams shipping continuously. I work inside your product team on strategy, interface and the system underneath — without the layers, handoffs and account management of an agency.

You getContinuous design, a system that stays maintained, and direct access to me.
03

System build

Project · fixed scope

A design system from scratch, or several inconsistent ones consolidated into one. This is the work behind eighteen AES sites becoming a single platform, and behind the component libraries at Omnia and IHG.

You getFigma library, tokens, documentation, and the governance to keep it coherent later.

Not sure which one you need? That is usually what the audit is for. Tell me what you are building.

[ 01 — Brand and identity ]

Identity that ships.

Identity, logo and visual language — for a new company, for a product, or for the landing page that has to carry both. Because the same person designs the interface it ends up living in, the brand still holds once it is a working product rather than a set of slides. Best for new ventures finding their look, and companies whose identity no longer matches what they have become.
What you get :
  • Identity
  • Logo
  • Visual language
  • Landing pages
[ 02 — Product strategy ]
What to build first.
Before any screens: what the product is for, who it is genuinely for, and which problem to solve first. Research, workshops, and the architecture decisions everything downstream depends on — because the expensive mistakes are made here, not in the interface. Best for new products, or ones that have grown past their original shape.
What you get :
  • Research
  • Workshops
  • Product architecture
  • Problem prioritisation
[ 03 — User experience ]
Structure before surface.
Multi-role platforms, dense workflows and data-heavy interfaces, designed around how the product actually needs to work rather than how it is easiest to draw. Best for dashboards, admin tools, booking and checkout, anything with real complexity.
What you get :
  • User flows
  • Wireframes
  • Prototypes
  • The finished interface
[ 04 — Systems design ]
Tokens that reach production.
Design systems that hold their shape, built so design and engineering stop drifting apart the month after launch. Eighteen AES websites across fourteen countries became one platform this way. Best for teams shipping fast, or several products that need to look like one company.
What you get :
  • Variables
  • Tokens
  • Components
  • Documentation

Recent work.

[ Chris F. · Rialto Vacations ]
I continue to return to Bobby as he delivers excellent work, quickly, consistently exceeding expectations.
[ Christopher D. · OTTO Reply ]
Bobby Papson demonstrated exceptional strategic design discipline and translated complex governance architecture into an executive-ready institutional framework with rare clarity and precision.
[ Scott N. · NestTracker ]
He was extremely responsive, asked great questions so he completely understood the project, and his output was top notch — everything we asked for and more.
[ Matt M. · Wander Llama ]
Bobby once again delivered excellent designs in an extremely timely fashion for my business.
Scope

Where I fit.

Product design is the core — AI and SaaS interfaces, and the design systems that hold them together. Brand, identity and the site work that carries them come with it. One person across both means the identity and the interface stop being separate arguments. I start products from nothing as often as I fix ones that have drifted.

Work I take
  • New products, blank page to shipped
  • Existing products that outgrew their design
  • Design systems — building one, or repairing one nobody follows
  • Brand and identity, and the site or landing page that carries it
Work I don't
  • Marketing. SEO, content, campaigns, growth. I design the product, not the funnel.
  • Volume. One person, a few clients at a time. If you need four designers in parallel you need an agency.
  • Spec execution. If the brief is settled and you want hands, I'm the wrong hire — I'll keep asking what it's for.

Tell me what's needed.

A short description of the product and intention is enough to start. If it isn't a fit, I'll say so and point you elsewhere.
